After a Class Induced Hiatus

Hmm, it seems I'm long overdue for an update. That's ok, I've finally got some time; it's been a busy few weeks.

Turned in my insect collection on Monday, which went a lot better than it should have. Lots of people had lots of extra stuff, and all these things got put on a "community board" and passed around. I'm not ashamed to say that probably a third to a quarter of my collection came from this board. This is probably not a good lesson about the value of hard work, but it accomplished the desired effect.

The Revolution is released in 9 days, and I'm getting pretty excited. I'm sort of glad I didn't pre-order any games; this way, I get to get there and then decide what I want. I'll get that delicious feeling of choice when I hold two or three boxes and have to decide (and probably end up with all of them). In related news, I was told that the 360 I'm getting for Christmas is going to be bought while I'm home for Thanksgiving so that no buying mistakes are made. Now I get to deal with the temptation of preemptively buying games for it, which will be very hard to do. Gears of War... Dead Rising... F.E.A.R... fortunately, I think my Amazon Prime membership lasts until after Christmas, so I can make some mass orders so that hours of enjoyment await me back at the dorms when I get back. Ah! Sadness! It lasts until the end of this month! Man, that just encourages me to make big orders within the next month. Oh well, paying a little shipping won't kill me.

I had hoped to see Borat on opening day, but it didn't happen; this is probably good, since when I do see things when they open, I end up rubbing elbows with a bunch of people I don't know, and would really rather not be rubbing. I've never been a fan of crowds, so waiting a week was probably best for me. But tonight I shall go see it, and it shall be glorious. I'd also kind of like to see Flushed Away, an animated movie from Paramount, but that will have to wait, I guess. It seems that Casino Royale opens next weekend; I haven't really heard anything about that one, but I sort of have to see it. I'm as desperate as anyone for the franchise to redeem itself after the steaming pile that was Die Another Day. Will Ferrel's new movie Stranger Than Fiction opens this weekend as well; I need to see it as well, but I don't know when that will happen.

Speaking of Borat, I've heard two things about the movie I feel the urge to report. One, Russia will not allow distribution of the movie anywhere in the county, because it pokes fun of their close ally, Kazakhstan. Ok, whatever, Russians are crazy, I get it. The other thing is that a group of South Carolina frat boys are suing the studio for showing footage of them being drunk and making a bunch of sexist and racist comments. First of all, they're South Carolina frat boys; I'm amazed they aren't proud of the statements. Calm down, I have nothing against South Carolinians; just against stupid drunk frat boys. Imagine that, you got drunk and someone recorded things, and now wish you hadn't done it. This is not because the studio is immoral for shooting you drunk (although if their claims as to how the situation went down are true, the producers are pretty underhanded), it is because you are freaking stupid. And, from the sound of it, racist and sexist. Which doesn't surprise me, because they are frat boys. The lack of respect flows like a river. A bitter, respectless river.
